Ballina Byron AccommodationWe've broken down accommodation into regional listings. Click on the area you want to stay in. Always an interesting experience is a visit to the local markets – most towns and villages have them. Check the events and activities guide for the schedule. If you are in the area for the Channon Markets, don't miss it – it is really something special and well worth the drive out. Ballina - Ballina lies on the northern bank of the Richmond River. Like many towns in the area it is attracting its fair share of sea changers looking for a better lifestyle. In recent years there has been a rapid expansion in shopping, residential and tourist developments, especially along the riverside. For those looking for a quieter family holiday destination, Ballina might be just the ticket. Shaws Bay is great for the kids, while North Wall and Angels Beach offer top quality waves for surfers. The anglers in the family will not be disappointed with beach, river and off shore fishing opportunities that rival the best in the country. Byron Bay/Suffolk Park - Byron Bay is an easy half hour saunter from Ballina Byron airport. Unless you are pressed for time, we'd recommend taking the Coast Road through Lennox Head and Suffolk Park. There are plenty of glorious sites as you drive along past Flat Rock surf break and Sharpes Beach. And don't forget to turn into Pat Morton Lookout as you approach Lennox Head. It's a great spot for whale watching, checking out the surfers at the point and admiring the daredevils soaring above on hang gliders. If you have time, drive into the village of Lennox Head and stop at the surf club for a coffee. It's well worthwhile. Soon enough you will arrive at Byron's unspoilt beaches where you can practice Tai Chi or Yoga by day and party down with the world's backpackers by night. Lennox Head - 10 minutes from Ballina and 20 from Byron. The perfect place to enjoy a peaceful holiday, if you like, or to commute to party central in Byron Bay. Lennox has a well deserved reputation as a laid back village, but don't let that fool you. It has struck a great balance of extremes – hang gliding and surfing from one of the country's top surf breaks – to tranquil bathing in the tea stained waters of Lake Ainsworth or the local boat channel. Fishing is a serious past time in the village – at low tide the reef is very popular, or you can fish from a tinny in North Creek. Lennox Head has become eat street with restaurants too numerous to mention, you'll know you've found a good place – the locals will be dining there too! Ballina Byron Hinterland - The hinterland is the jewel in the crown. Mother nature has blessed the area with abundant rainfall, meaning the only browns you will see here are cows and kangaroos. Don't hesitate to visit the towns and villages that appear every few kilometres. Alstonville, Rosebank, Clunes, Lismore, Uki and of course Nimbin are definitely worth a visit. Better yet, explore the region from a B&B, motel or farm stay. There are lots about. You'll be amazed at the range of local products grown and appreciate the natural beauty of the region. If you hunger for cultural diversity and personal development, you will find plenty on the menu here. Ballina lies on the northern bank of the Richmond River.
